What you can use today
Section titled “What you can use today”TebibHost’s images. New VMs start from one of the OS images: Ubuntu, Debian, Rocky Linux and AlmaLinux cloud images, refreshed from upstream every night, with the QEMU guest agent added.
cloud-init for repeatable setup. Put the setup of a server in a cloud-init file: packages, users, files, services. Every VM created with that file comes up the same way, and the file lives in your own version control. This is the recommended way to build identical servers, image or no image.
Snapshots for roll-back. A snapshot captures a VM’s disks so you can restore that VM to an earlier state. It can’t yet seed a new VM.
Data on a separate volume. Keep application data on a data volume. Moving to a new VM is then: create the VM from an image plus your cloud-init, detach the volume from the old VM, attach it to the new one.
